The most significant addition in this version is AI Search, powered by semantic embeddings. Instead of relying solely on traditional keyword matching, AI Search understands the meaning behind your queries, providing more accurate and intuitive results.

Integrated Seamlessly: Semantic search is now part of Fluent Search's core engine, automatically enhancing search across apps, plugins, and even settings.

How to Use AI Search:

For real-time semantic search beyond cached items, use the AI tag in your search queries.
To get started, you’ll need to install the AI components. You can do this by searching with the AI tag for the first time or navigating to Settings -> Search -> AI.
Choose between two model types when installing:
- English Only: Optimized for English searches.
- Multi Language: Supports cross-language search across 100 languages, delivering equal accuracy in English searches and broader versatility.

AI Summarization: Quickly Grasp Search Results

Another AI-driven improvement is result summarization. This feature helps you quickly understand file and web search results by highlighting key sentences rather than generating entirely new text. Think of it as smart extraction of important content!

Search Tags Island: Discover More Efficiently

Introducing the Search Tags Island—a dynamic component at the top right of the search bar. This smart feature suggests relevant search tags based on your query and search results, significantly improving your ability to filter and find precisely what you need.

When AI components are installed, suggestions become even smarter by leveraging semantic similarity.

Enhanced Fuzzy File Search

Searching for files just got better! The new fuzzy search indexing feature lets you perform semi-fuzzy searches. For instance, typing "mcd" or "mycool" will now find "My Cool Document," rather than relying solely on exact keyword tokens.

Additionally, the file search algorithm has been refined for greater accuracy and better performance.

Why shouldn't I use the mouse?

One of Fluent Search main features the Screen Search lets you use your computer without a mouse.

You might ask why would you need to use your computer without a mouse? The answer is simple - the act of moving your hand from the keyboard to the mouse is something that can hurt productivity by up to 20%, just because of that movement.

Many might tell you that you can't use your computer without a mouse, but many productivity enthusiasts might disagree. Programmers learn keyboard shortcuts for the software they use so they can minimize the time they use the mouse, but not every software has keyboard shortcuts and it's very hard to memorize all of them.

The solution - Screen Search

That's where Fluent Search comes to the rescue! The Screen Search uses advanced image processing algorithms to find click-able objects on your screen regardless of the software you are currently using. Each click-able object is shown as a tag - a two letter square on your screen. When you choose a specific tag (by writing it's two letters), the mouse will automatically click there!

Hello everyone! I am excited to finally reach this milestone - version 1.0.0 of Fluent Search. It's been a long journey, and I'm thrilled to share the progress with you.

In this version, I've focused on simplifying the overall user experience, introducing more customization options, and refining existing features. This marks a significant step towards the first non-beta version of Fluent Search. Your feedback is invaluable at this stage, so please feel free to provide detailed input. Thank you! :)

User Interface Enhancements

New Icon for Fluent Search

Introducing a fresh icon that I believe will enhance the look on your taskbar and evoke a more "fluent" feel.

Redesigned Settings Window

The Settings window has received a thoughtful redesign for easier navigation. Categories are now neatly organized, making it simpler to find what you're looking for.

Hotkeys and Search apps each have their dedicated sections, and the Hotkey registration control has been optimized for smoother use. At the top, you'll find a preview of your settings along with helpful related search tags.

Polished Existing Windows

Other windows, such as About and Update, have been refined to match the overall aesthetics of the application.

Customization

Custom Themes

You now have the ability to save your personalized Fluent Search appearance. Sharing and importing these themes is straightforward – simply share the theme file. For those feeling adventurous, a collection of themes from other users is available. To facilitate theme sharing, I've created a GitHub repository that you can use to share themes with everyone! New Customization Features

To make theme sharing more engaging, I've introduced new customization options. You can now adjust corner radius and customize the search watermark. The 'Dynamic' watermark will display a random watermark every time you open the search window, aiming to bring some humor to the experience.

Enhanced Search Tags

Search tags have always been at the core of Fluent Search. With this update, you can now utilize multiple tags simultaneously and even create your own tags!
For enthusiasts of managing files, I've added useful tricks like searching within parent folders or locating files with specific extensions by simply typing them.
If you're an avid web explorer, you can now use URLs as tags to search through your history and bookmarks. Plus, frequently used tags will be suggested as you start typing the first letter.

For improved accessibility, each search app will display the available search tags at the top, and the 'Search tags' setting page will list them all.

Reworked Prioritization

I've fine-tuned the way machine learning works to provide even more consistent search results.
Prioritization has been completely reworked - you can now prioritize results on a per-result basis, tailoring the ranking for each item individually.

Furthermore, you now have the ability to order results on demand directly within the search window!

Unified Windows Search (Formerly Process Search)

Acknowledging the confusion caused by the terminology, I have renamed Process Search to Windows Search, as this feature is used to search for open visible windows, rather than running processes.

In-App

In-app search has also been rebranded as In-Window search, and it is now integrated with Windows Search. Additionally, it's no longer regarded as a specialized search mode; you can easily activate it by using the 'inwindow' search tag or the familiar hotkey method.

Enhanced Instant Search

Instant search is now distinct from in-window search (formerly in-app). It's more efficient and can be enabled using specific search tags for each app!

Preview

File preview functionality can now be accessed outside of Fluent Search by pressing the 'Space' key when a file is selected in a supported file manager. Additional enhancements include markdown support, toggling specific modules, and JSON file formatting.

Screen Search Enhancement

Screen search should now feel faster, with the task bar icon no longer displaying for a smoother experience. For users with multiple monitors, you can conveniently move screen search between monitors using the 'Shift' key.

The Quick Menu's performance in loading sub-trees has been enhanced, and you can now directly pin search tags to the Quick Menu for quick access.

Feedback

Providing feedback within Fluent Search is now easier than ever. The feedback window is accessible from the system tray menu.

Sorry, it took so long, this version has been in the oven for over 5 months with over 100 nightly releases.
From now on, there will be monthly stable updates until 1.0.0 is finally released!

Translation

Fluent Search is already being used across the globe and many users expect a fully localized app.
With the help of amazing volunteers Fluent Search was translated to Chinese and Spanish!
Special thanks to @ltuxer and @drac for translating over 1800 keys.

Chinese and RTL support

RTL support and Chinese text rendering and processing are finally supported!
In addition, a Chinese Pinyin search is also available in Settings -> System -> Enable Chinese support.

Web preview

Need to quickly look at a bookmark or a search result? You can now view websites directly inside Fluent Search!
To use it, simply search for any web-related result and enable its preview using ALT.

You can set the web preview to automatically show in Settings -> Web for web results, or for all results in Settings -> Preview for any result.

Even more previews

Using the Web preview, Fluent Search will display videos and PDF files.
In addition, an audio preview has been added for various audio files.

Screen search

Screen search performance has been improved and it's now more customizable!

Smarter tags

Screen search tags character selection is now smarter and is optimized to use as less characters as possible.

You can now set tags colors, opacity, character pool and more!

Search performance

As always search performance has been greatly improved, reducing CPU usage while reducing speed.

In addition, support for a much-requested feature - Fuzzy Searching - has finally been added.

Indexer improvements

Performance

The Fluent Search indexer has been already fast, but now it's even faster.
To be precise, searching on average is 10 times faster than version 0.9.90.0!

New query language

In addition, searching using the Fluent Search indexer now supports advanced search terms -

< > (group)

For example - blast AND <txt OR docx> to search for docx or txt files with the name blast.

Network and Google Drive

Many improvements to network drive indexing and support for indexing Google Drive network drives are now available.

Tasks improvements

Tasks is the best way to extend the functionality of Fluent Search, and I have added a few things to allow users to easily use it.

Templates and comments

The Tasks window now shows built-in templates to easily start it using it!
Also, Tasks operations can now be documented by using comments.

JSON and For-each

As in other low-code platforms, you can now use the For Each block to iterate over arrays.
For example, you can iterate over a JSON array to create multiple custom search results.

There is a new GitHub repo for sharing Tasks, you can already find tasks shared by the community there.

3rd Party File Managers

Support for 3rd party file managers, for all the Context features, is now available!

So after 489 iterations, this update is finally available, I hope you're excited as I am!

Tasks

Felt the need for more power? your wish is granted. Using Tasks you automate and extend all of Fluent Search functionality!
Tasks are built using triggers and operations, once a trigger fires it may invoke a chain of operations.
Expect full documentation soon, for now, you can read here.

Design

Improved design language, Fluent Search UI will be more minimal by default.
Colors and themes have been improved to look better regardless of the selected color scheme (Dark/Light).

Stability

Fluent Search is steadily approaching version 1.0.0, stability, performance, and localization are my top priorities.
You can expect a much more stable experience from this update, bringing over 100 bug fixes, find more in the changelogs.

Customizable text preview

This update brings many improvements to the preview feature, the first thing to note is that enabling preview is now done using ALT instead of Space.
The text preview now can be customized to your liking, supporting multiple themes, text highlighting for different file types and more.

Context pasting

Most of you are aware of the "Copy context" feature and have been waiting patiently for the "paste" right?
It's finally here, by default it's set to Ctrl+Shift+G, using that you can copy the context of a window to another one! Context can be folder path or URL of a browser.

Improved accessibility

Fluent Search is greatly useful for visually impaired users.
I am committed to keeping adding support for accessibility for all features, making sure Fluent Search is accessible for everyone.

Fluent Search Tasks - nightly test

Tasks is a new experimental feature available in Fluent Search version 0.9.90 (currently in nightly).
Using Tasks you can easily automate all of Fluent Search features easily and intuitively.

What is an Operation?

Operation is a "block", it can do anything, like open a file, invoke a search result, and more.
Operations can be connected to each other and will execute in sequential order - only after the last operation is executed. Each operation has its own settings and may produce an output (more about that below).

What is a trigger?

A Trigger is a special kind of Operation that initiates the execution of the Operations chain.
A Trigger can invoke when a user inputs a search, or when a hotkey is pressed.

What is a Task project?

A Task project is a set of "operations" that are connected to each other, when one of the Triggers is activated, then all cool stuff begins.

Here is a very simple example -

The triggers here are two hotkeys, Ctrl+Alt+M and Ctrl+Alt+Y, when invoked the next operation (connected through line) will trigger, in this case, it's either the YouTube or YouTube Music apps.

Inputs

Each operation is configured through settings in it's editor window.

For example, here the operation is a search (which is also a trigger), the settings are, as expected, search related settings.
For this Trigger, you can configure it to trigger when the user invokes a specific search, depending on the search text, tag, and more.

Outputs and variables

Operations may have an output, when they do you will have the "Output" tab in the editor window.
The output can be transformed into Variables, variables are set of objects that can be accessed through the entire operation chain.

For example, here the outputs for search are the search text and the search tag.
Configuring a variable value is done through text, the most simple variable value would be "" which would mean it just tasks the result of the operation.
For more advanced cases you can get nested values, as for the search trigger, the result is split into two variables "searchText", which is value is "result.SearchedText" and "searchTag"'s value is "result.SearchedTag".

Variable execution

Variables values are configured through text, but this text is actually based on C#, so any valid C# based syntax should work.
For example, "{searchText.First()}" would get the first letter of the searchText.

Example - Windows theme change

Ok so you must be confused by now, lets create a basic Task project that changes Windows theme based on selection.

Create trigger

First open the Tasks window through the system tray menu, then press the plus button (Alt+A) to add a new Task, call it "Change theme", then press OK.
Right-click the drawing canvas (Menu), select Triggers, then Search, here set the search text to "theme" and press save.
Now we have a project that triggers when a user searches "theme", right-click again on the canvas and select Search, and then Custom result.
Call the result "Change Windows theme", select your favorite icon, and set the Score to 50, which is a number that determines the position of the result in Fluent Search.
Right-click the search trigger (Menu), then click connect and choose the result we just added.
Now when searching for "theme" you should see your result, which will do nothing for now.

Add actions

Each result in Fluent Search has operations, for example, "Open file", "Open directory", lets a search operation to our result.
Right-click the canvas, then press Search, then Custom operation, call it "Dark" and save, do the same for "Light" and connect our search result to both.

Make it actually do something

Now finally, let's make it do something, right-click the canvas, then press Misc, then PS Script, which stands for Powershell script.
Call it Dark, and in its "Content" put - Set-ItemProperty -Path HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize -Name AppsUseLightTheme -Value 0, this will change your Windows theme to dark, press save.
Do the same for Light, add a PS Script with the content - Set-ItemProperty -Path HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize -Name AppsUseLightTheme -Value 1.
Now connect the Dark and Light operators to the respective PS Scripts! You should have a canvas similar to this -

Try searching for "theme" and see how your Windows theme changes!
You can customize this to change based on prefix for example create a search trigger that accepts "theme dark" and "theme light" and connect each to the different search result.

While you can use Tasks to create very specific automation for your scenarios, you can also make "generic" ones that apply to more people and share them. Tasks are stored as YAML files in your %appdata%\Blast\Tasks folder, you can share a Task file with anyone.

Your feedback is needed!

This is a VERY early version, it has bugs, and it's not user-friendly, for the next few weeks it will change a lot these changes might affect the Tasks you created.
In case this wasn't enough to scare you, then I really need your feedback for the following -

Question and answers

Q - Why do I need this?
A - You do not necessarily need it, but the Tasks other users will create might prove useful for you.

Q - Is this replacing plugins?
A - No, writing C# plugins is always better technically, but using Tasks you can do it even faster without C# knowledge.

Q - What more Operations should I expect?
A - I am planning to add all Fluent Search features as operations, and allow 3rd party operations through C# plugins.

Sorry, it took so long, this long-awaited update will bring a lot to make Fluent Search feel more polished.
It's been a year since Fluent Search was first released! Hope you guys can see the improvements as well.

Many, many, many... performance improvements

I know you read that in every version, and you probably think "Adir are you messing with us?", and the answer to that is probably yes.
Jokes aside, to make these performance improvements more measurable here are some charts, because why not -

In case you weren't confused yet with too many customization options, here are more - themes, predefined good-looking templates that will change all your appearance settings.

Animations

Fluent Search will now have show some animations when opening, searching, or interacting with results. The animations are very minimal and can be disabled or tuned in settings.

Gaming mode

Tired of blaming Fluent Search when losing a game (I do)? Introducing - gaming mode.
Enabling through the system tray menu, when enabled Fluent Search will stop listening to all hotkeys and stop all background activity.

Accessibility support

Added proper dedicated implementation of text to speech for users who can't rely on visuals.
To enable Fluent Search speech mode press - Ctrl+Alt+Shift+A

Screen search - OCR

When using the in-app search hotkey and Screen Search is enabled, you will now get results from a text on your screen using OCR.
OCR is Optical character recognition and is the ability to extract text from an image (screenshot).

Animations - all windows have new subtle animations to improve smoothness (need feedback), you can disable animations in settings
Improved the performance and accuracy of the machine learning model
New feature - gaming mode - enable through system tray menu, when enabled Fluent Search will stop all background processing, reduce memory usage, and stop listening to any hotkeys
New feature - Screen Search using OCR - when searching in process, and the Screen Search app is enabled, it will search in the process using OCR
Added support of "Speech mode" - using this mode, visually impaired users will be able to use Fluent Search easily. Do NOT enable this if you don't need it, it will change your settings
The installation size has been reduced by 107MB
When searching for a full directory path-
- If the directory exists FS will show a result for it above files inside
- If the directory does not exist FS will show a result to create it including all sub-folders
All Fluent Search windows components are now rendered by FS -
- This allows truly rounded corners in Windows 10 as well
- Acrylic blur effect will now apply to context menus and drop-down lists
- You can now use Acrylic blur and Transparent effects in Windows 11
Search algorithm has been improved, it now takes into account word breaks, e.g. "MyFile" will show higher than " Myfile" when searching for "file"
File search algorithm has been improved, junk files will be less prioritized automatically, recently changed files will be more prioritized
Prioritization settings has been changed - it no longer uses numbers but a value list - ignore, low, normal, high, very high
Reduced index database size when using Fluent Search indexer
You can now use the "pinned" or "suggested" search tags to search in each part of the home screen
Color picker setting input text will no longer require hashtag at the beginning
Added setting "Prioritize files based on time"
Added new setting - "Open folders in existing Explorer window" in Files settings
Added new setting - "Reduce memory usage" - which will cause FS to clean up memory as soon as it's hidden, this may hurt performance
Added support for 3rd party preview modules, you can install them through the plugins manager
Preview modules has now option to instantly show preview without any hotkey required! This can be configured per module like images, text, etc.
All windows now support the following key gestures - Ctrl+Plus/Minus for controlling font size
Increased the opacity of all secondary text colors (e.g. Settings description) for better visibility
The calculator search app will now also convert decimals to hex/binary (you can do the other way by specifying "0x"
The calculator search app will now accept 'x' as multiply sign #256 for hex or "0b" for binary)
Key handling in the search window has been reworked, navigating the search window using keyboard should feel smoother (this should fix the issue that some custom key gestures were not working due to conflicts)

Fixed a bug that downloading plugins were not working for some users
Fixed a bug that the search bar operation pane would not fully show in some cases
Fixed a bug that ClickOnce apps were not shown in-app search (their icon will be missing)
Fixed a bug that removing folder tag did not work
Fixed a bug that folder tag rename did not start after restart
Fixed a bug that exporting settings could crash Fluent Search
Fixed a bug that some key text representation was incorrect (Oem2 instead of Question)
Fixed a bug that some App results were not correctly scored (E.g. Wordpad and Word)
Fixed a bug that files result focus did not work
Fixed a bug that Appx installation was not creating the file indexer service
Fixed a bug that sometimes some file icons were kept in memory causing a slight increase in memory usage
